ENVIROMENTALIST, ANIMAL PLANET HOSTTO SPEAK AT LAMAR-PA

CORWIN
Jeff Corwin, host and executive producer of one of the most popular shows on cable television, "The Jeff Corwin Experience," which has an audience of more than 13 million viewers in the United States and is viewed in more than 70 countries worldwide, will be the Distinguished Lecture Series speaker at Lamar State College-Port Arthur Oct. 2.

The photogenic Corwin also is well-known for his appearance, usually with animals, on the Today Show, Good Morning America, the CBS Morning Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Access Hollywood, Extra and Oprah.

Corwin, an author and Emmy winner, has been working for the conservation of endangered species and ecosystems around the world since he was a teenager.

Now an expert in rainforest animals, Corwin was first introduced to tropical rain forests in 1984 during an expedition to Belize. He now advocates for the need to conserve these areas of the planet.

In 1994, he served as expedition naturalist for "The Jason Project," the acclaimed documentary series produced by National Geographic and EDS under the direction of Robert Ballard.

In 2005, Corwin produced the series "Corwin's Quest" on the Animal Planet cable channel, filmed on five continents and featuring shows on the sensory qualities of animal behavior, including sound, smell, diet, defense, attack and survival.

Previous speakers the LSC-PA Distinguished Lecture Series include former President Jimmy Carter, former astronaut James Lovell, former Polish president Lech Walesa, actors James Earl Jones and Edward James Olmos, Olympic medal winner Cathy Rigby, inner city high school principal Joe Clark, professional basketball star Cynthia Cooper, anti-crime TV show host John Walsh and NPR humorist Garrison Keillor.

Distinguished Lecture Series presentations are free and open to the public. Corwin's lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in the Carl Parker Center, 1800 Lakeshore Drive on the Lamar State campus.
